Day 2: Whidbey Island, here we come!

Today we took a trip down memory lane and examined a huge box of old letters, pictures, and report cards from our childhood days. We divided everything out (yes, even for you Danny!) and just talked about what we found. It's been a long time since we've been able to reminisce like that!

After the kids finally woke up at 10am, we hopped onto the Whidbey Island Ferry from the Mukilteo waterfront and traveled up Whidbey Island. Our original intention was to visit Deception Pass, but time just got away from us. We ended up visiting Fort Casey and the lighthouse there. We climbed up to the tippy top of the lighthouse and looked out over the water. The view was gorgeous!

We hiked over to the actual fort and let Nate explore for a little while. He really enjoyed climbing up and down ladders, peering in hidey holes, and examining the cannons there. He was really in his element!

We took lots of pictures:

On the way back, we saw several very cute little deer.

We tried to travel BACK on the Clinton to Mukilteo ferry, but the ferry terminal was broken. We ended up traveling on the ferry all the way back to Edmonds instead. We were the focus of media attention (three helicopters circling around) and there was even a reporter filming us as we exited the ferry. We arrived just an hour late to have dinner with Grandma and Geri at our favorite restaurant, Pizza Hut. I introduced Liz and they got reaquainted with Euvah while we ate our delicious meal. Another exciting day! Tomorrow we're off to Eastern Washington!
